Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Statement of ethics, responsibility and originality stablished as follows:

    "I hereby certify my responsibility for text content, designed by me or with my participation and certify I have not omitted any affiliations or financial agreements between me and agencies that may have interest in its publication. I also certify that the text to be submitted is original, that it does not contain plagiarism, self-plagiarism or the publishing of fraudulent research results. Furthermore, I certify that the manuscript has not been and will not be sent to another journal, either in print or electronic format, while its publication is being considered by the journal Estudos Históricos".

  • Cession of Copyright:

    "I declare that in case of acceptance of the article, the journal Estudos Históricos will own the copyright for the text, which will become its exclusive property, prohibited any reproduction, in whole or in part, in any form or means of dissemination, printed or electronic, without the prior and necessary authorization requested by me. If obtained the authorization, I declare that I will include my acknowledgment to the journal".

Author Guidelines

1. Text – The manuscripts submitted to the Editors should be in Portuguese, English or Spanish and in .DOC, .DOCX or .RTF format(not exceeding 5MB), in 12 point Times New Roman, double-spaced, A4 page format. Articles should have a minimum of 35,000 characters and a maximum of 50,000 characters (with spaces), and Bibliographical Essays should have a minimum of 20,000 characters and a maximum of 35,000 characters (with spaces), all including titles, notes and bibliographic references, but excluding the summaries.

Identification of authorship must be removed from the file and from the option 'Properties' from the .DOC, .DOCX or .RTF document, in order to ensure the journal's confidentiality criteria.

2. Title, abstract and keywords – Every article submitted to the journal must contain a title, an informative abstract, and a list of up to six keywords, which identify the principal subjects dealt with in Portuguese, with translations in English and Spanish. The abstract should have a maximum of 100 words, clearly showing the purposes, methods used, and the principal conclusions of the paper.

3. Notes and bibliographical references – Notes should be concise. The bibliographical references should not be present at the footnotes, but must be included within the main text. The reference must include the author's name, followed by the publication date and by the page number, separated by colons.

Examples:

According to Cassirer (1979: 46), the synthesis and production for knowledge…

The self that states "I" (Benveniste, 1972: 32)...

4. Bibliography – The Bibliography must be a single list at the end of the article, organized in alphabetical order. The references must follow the standards of NBR 6023:2002, as the following models:

I) for books: a) author's last name (in capital letters), followed by the first name; b) title of the work (italics); c) number of the edition (if necessary); d) place of publication; e) name of the publisher; f) date of publication.

Example: BACHELARD, Gaston. La terre et les rêveries de la volonté. Paris: Librairie José Corti, 1984.

II) for articles: a) author's last name (in capital letters), followed by the first name; b) title of the article; c) Journal’s full name (italics); d) place of publication; e) volume and number of the journal; f) date of publication.

Example: CAMARGO, Aspasia. Os usos da história oral e da história de vida: trabalhando com elites políticas. Dados, Rio de Janeiro, vol. 27, n. 1, 1984.

Submitting manuscripts

Articles can only be submitted to the editors through the Electronic System for Journal Publishing (Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas), available at the Digital Library portal of FGV at: http://bibliotecadigital.fgv.br/ojs/index.php/reh.
