About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The focus of articles for the JOSCM should be on the managerial situation or the theory being studied rather than the solution techniques being developed or used. Highest priority is thus given to studies that are anchored in the real world and build, extend or test generalizable theories or frameworks of managerial significance. Most often such studies result from either identifying an actual, new managerial situation for which existing theory is inadequate - thereby resulting in an addition to theory - or else testing multiple existing theories against actual managerial situations to determine their relevance - thereby enhancing theory through subtraction.
Journal articles include four categories of material:
1. Articles that report empirical research. Such survey research must justify its contribution to the discipline.
2. Articles that report on the development of methodologies and techniques that can enhance OM decision making.
3. Articles reporting the application of decision tools to generic or specific OM problems. Such applications must either generalize current insight or extend the application of such decision tools.
4. Invited articles from acknowledged leaders in the OM discipline.
General topics covered by the journal, while not exclusive, include the following:

• Manufacturing and service systems design;

• Operations planning, scheduling and control;

Manuscripts should be between 8.000 and 10.000 words, typically 15-20 double-spaced, typewritten pages. Articles of shorter length are also acceptable.
The JOSCM is an international journal published twice a year (in the end of June and end of December) focused at an audience of researchers and practitioners.
Peer Review Process
Articles submitted to the Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management (JOSCM) first pass through a preliminary triage in terms of format (to analyze whether they conform to expected norms and formats) and then pass through the iThenticate system that detects similarities. They are then evaluated in a two steps process:
- Desk review conducted by the Editor-in-Chief, who examines whether the work fits into the journal’s general scope and whether it has potential for publication. In this step, the Editor-in-Chief can reject or direct the paper for the double blind review system, in this case the Editor indicates a Section Editor that is responsible for designating reviewers and following the process until its end. Desk review outcomes are out in a week;
- The double blind review system means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed throughout the review process. Manuscripts are evaluated by reviewers from different institutions/regions of the authors. The review process adopted by the JOSCM is the following: two outside reviewers who are experts in the paper fields are invited to analyze the article and make comments and suggestions to improve it. This step involves continuous revaluations to improve the article. Reviewers can make the following decisions after the reviews: minor revision, major revision or reprove. If reviewers have conflicting views on the outcome of the review process, another reviewer is invited to evaluate the paper and support the editorial decision. The reply from double blind review process occurs in average in 45 days.
When an article is approved, it is submitted for editing and revised for any spelling and grammar mistakes. Before the publication, the Editorial Office sends the final version to the authors for their approval and any updates. Papers are published normally in the following issue.
Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management is published every six months on June 30 and December 31
The flagship journal of the International Conference on Production and Supply Chain Management (SIMPOI) at Getulio Vargas Business School (FGV) in Brazil.
The mission of the Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management (JOSCM) is to advance knowledge and science and to stimulate greater thought and effort in the fields of OM theory and practice by providing readers with:
• New and helpful information;
• New OM theory or techniques;
• Research generalizations about OM thoughts and practices;
• OM understanding by researchers and practitioners;
• Creative views and syntheses of dispersed concepts in OM and;
• Articles in subject areas which have significant current impact on thought and practice in OM, which present challenges for the future.
Regular articles accepted for publication in JOSCM must have clear implications for practitioners who manage product and process design, operations, and supply chains based on one or more of a variety of rigorous research methodologies. Manuscripts accepted for publication must meet the following criteria:
1. Research papers in the field of OM in manufacturing and services.
2. Research rigor applied through the scientific theory-building approach.
3. Managerial relevance.
4. Manuscripts should be submitted in English or Portuguese*. It covers all topics in product and process design, operations, and supply chain management and welcomes papers using any research paradigm.
*If an article that is written in Portuguese is approved for publication, the author(s) is(are) responsible to hiring a professional appointed by FGV / RAE-publications for translation services.
