Maternidade: sim ou não? Por quê?

Abstract

This dissertation aimed to identify the factors that conduct the women of today to decide for or against motherhood, as well as to identify her feelings about the subject. An exploratory field research was conducted using the life-history technique. Thirty one middle class working women, with no children, and in hers thirties, were Interviewed and offered statements about their decisions on procreate or note from the analysis of the statements we found that the degree of anxiety to make a choice seems to vary according to the extension of inner conflicts. These conflicts seems to derive from two sources: a) the degree of Interior disposability to become a mother; b) the degree of support from external sources. Emotional questions were clearly the more Influential actor to come to a resolution on the matter. The woman of today, although more acting socially. seems to fear that eventual renunciation to the maternal status may, In the future be sensed as a vacuum. This study made manifest that In the long run - with the Increment of the inner psychological pressure to make a decision -the women tend to be well-inclined toward motherhood.

Este trabalho buscou identificar os fatores que levam a mulher de hoje a se decidir favorável ou desfavoravelmente em relação à maternidade e seus sentimentos quanto a esta questão. Foi feita uma pesquisa exploratória de campo, através de técnica história de vida. Trinta e uma mulheres de classe media, com idade em torno de trinta anos, sem filhos, trabalhando fora, deram seus depoimentos acerca da maternidade e de seus aspectos a ela relacionados que, supostamente, teriam interferência na decisão da mulher atual sobre a questão de ter ou não ter filhos. A partir da análise dos relatos, verificou-se que a grande ansiedade frente à escolha parece variar de acordo com a extensão do conflito. Este depende principalmente de dois fatores: o grau de disponibilidade interna para ser mãe e o grau de disponibilidade interna para ser mãe e o grau de favorecimento proporcionado pelas condições externas. As questões emocionais evidenciaram-se como de mais marcante influência no posicionamento frente à maternidade. Embora muito mais atuante socialmente, a mulher de hoje parece ainda temer que a renúncia ao papel maternal possa, no futuro, ser sentida como uma lacuna. Este estudo revelou que, com o passar do tempo e o aumento da pressão interna para decidir-se, a mulher tende a tornar-se a favorável à maternidade.
