This thesis proposes to conduct empirical research on the validity of the influence of economic growth on income inequality in Brazil. The analysis is done by applying techniques of estimation data in Arellano-Bond´s dynamic panel for Brazilian states, using PNADs´ data from 1986 to 2011, at intervals of five years. The main conclusions are: a.) economic growth had a significant impact on reducing income inequality in the period, b) although the growth negatively impact income inequality, the higher the proportion of poor in the economy lower will be this impact, c.) variables such as education and government transfers related to social programs also contributed to the reduction of inequality in the period, d.) the conclusions differ if we change the Gini indicator of Brazil by the Gini index of the public sector, with the variable economic growth ceased to be significant and e.) economic growth and education also play an important role in reducing long-run inequality, while the impact of government transfers is limited in the short term.
