Public Economic Theory

Promote public economic theory generally and to foster interaction between theorists, applied and empirical researchers in public economics and related fields. Thus, PET 16 FGV will follow the tradition of the Association for Public Economic Theory (PET) conferences in encouraging the diffusion of high quality research in public economics, both applied and theoretical. Typically, each conference has three keynote speakers, highly distinguished experts. For PET 15 Luxembourg, for example, APET has already confirmed the participation of Nobel Laureate Roger Myerson Nobel Laureates who have spoken at PET conferences include Robert Aumann, James Heckman, Robert Lucas, Daniel McFadden, James Mirrlees, Peter Diamond (before he received the award). Some potential very distinguished speakers for PET 16 FGV would be, for example, Nobel Laureates James Heckman, Jim Mirrlees, Dan McFadden, Roger Myerson, and Eric Maskin. (In fact, with the exception of Myerson, who will speak at PET 15, all these individuals have been keynote speakers at PET events.)

    Theme: "Digital Transformation in Retailing"

The technological evolution of recent years has allowed several retail business opportunities to emerge that go beyond simply focusing on a single technology or strategy. Digital transformation in the retail industry is about the trend of creating innovative business models that redefine the traditional limits of retail by removing barriers between the physical and virtual world.

The changes of the consumer journey and the omnichannel approach highlight the need for a closer look at these transformations. Currently, consumers might browse, search, and shop anytime, anywhere, sharing insights and experiences about services and products on social medias, shaping the perception of other consumers about brands. These new behaviors require a radical change in the way the retailer uses digital technology to innovate and deliver value. This transformation, which includes artificial intelligence, mobile, virtual reality, etc., has the challenge of integrating systems that include providers, channels, customers, employees and other retailers. All of this must be analyzed in a comprehensive way about the retail business, with a critical view of what customers and society really expect and desire.

In 2019, the 12th CLAV discusses the new opportunities and business models that emerge with retail digital transformation and the role of retailers in managing these changes.

    TARGET
CLAV welcomes researchers, professors, undergraduate and graduate students, interested or involved in research on the topic of retail, as well as retail practitioners or people interested in retail in Latin America and other regions of the world.

Forecasting in Rio

Forecasting has applications in several areas of Econometrics, although macroeconomic forecasting has occupied a relative large space in the literature historically. Recently, however, financial applications have gained momentum, with topics such as forecasting volatility, quantiles, distributions, etc. Panel-data techniques also show promise, since the added cross-sectional dimension allows the pooling of information, the pooling of forecasts, and pooling from different data frequencies, which is particularly important in financial applications.
