A interação entre alunos na sala de aula através da promoção do trabalho escolar em pequenos grupos representa uma inovação educacional capaz de contribuir de modo importante para o enfrentamento do fracasso escolar. A revisão da literatura sobre o tema revelou a existência de inúmeros estudos que têm discutido o valor dessas relações, muitos dos quais buscam na epistemologia genética de 'Jean Piaget subsídios para explicar os benefícios intelectuais observados que possam influir no rendimento escolar.
