Origens coloniais das instituições brasileiras

Abstract

Esta dissertação revisita o debate sobre o papel das instituições e da educação no desenvolvimento econômico. Utilizando variáveis históricas dos estados brasileiros, encontraram-se evidências de que o capital humano é bastante mais relevante que as instituições na determinação da renda per capita, e inclusive há indicação de que o nível de educação precede a formação das instituições.

This paper revisits the debate about the role of institutions and education over the economic development. Using historical variables of the Brazilian states, we found evidences that the human capital is strongly more relevant than the institutions to determinate the income per capita, even indicating that the level of education precedes the shaping of institutions.
