This dissertation analyzes the distributional effects on the aggregate consumption function. A survey of theoretical and empirical works on this subject was made. A model using cross sectional data was estlmeted for the Brazilian economy. The data consíst of a series embracing the period 1990 to 1992. The estimated model found a negative correlation betvveen Ihe average propensity to consume and the levei of household income. This result suggests that there is empirical support to the proposition that the incorne distribution affects aggregate consumption in the Brazilian case.
