Resumo
The introduction of new managerial technology is a theme of great interest for academics and practitioners. This research intends to analyze the subject of fads and fashions in management by means of an investigation about the adoption and implementation of enterprise resource planning systems. Such systems, which became very popular lately, represent large investments for the firms. Challenged by increasing competition, companies all over the world adopted these sort of systems. We hypothesize that the decision making process that lead to the adoption is inconsistent, that the implementation strategy is poorly defined and that the results are far below the expected. A framework, based on substantive, institutional e political factors is proposed. This work seeks to understand the phenomenon.
