Resumo

The competition in retailing has led companies to look for more efficiency in the business processes both in the internal environment and in the relationship with suppliers and consumers. The companies in this search for efficiency through the improvement in the business processes have been making usage of information technology (IT) in many different forms. The main objective of this paper is to investigate how is the IT usage in large brazilian retailing corporations in a perspective of its proposes, contributions, facilitators and obstacles according to experts (researchers and consultants) and executives. The development of this require 24 interviews with experts and 16 case studies with executives from larges brazilian retailing companies.
