O EIS e as novas ferramentas de apoio ao executivo

Abstract

Executive Information Systems (EIS) have dramatically changed management practices. Many companies would not be able to process their information requirements without the help of this kind of technology. This work offers a discussion of the EIS fundamentals: the definition of information that EIS should treat; the trends of its main characteristics (base, interface, integration); and its benefits to the organization. Drawing on survey responses from managers of the 500 biggest Brazilian corporations, we compare the Brazilian and American perceptions of EIS expected and realized benefits. The results point the need of more effective cost/benefit analysis.

Os sistemas de apoio ao executivo têm revolucionado os processos de gestão. Já não é possível imaginar a rotina de muitas empresas sem o auxílio dessa tecnologia. O presente trabalho discute os problemas em determinar as informações que o sistema deve tratar, as suas principais características e as expectativas em relação aos seus benefícios para a organização. Com base nos resultados de pesquisa efetuada entre as 500 maiores empresas brasileiras, comparamos as percepções de benefícios esperados e obtidos de executivos brasileiros e americanos. Os resultados indicam a necessidade de promover análises de custo/benefício mais efetivas.
