Arquivos de direitos humanos : um exercício a partir do arquivo pessoal Herbert de Souza

Abstract

A presente dissertação procura explorar a categoria “arquivos de direitos humanos”, recorrendo para isso à literatura arquivística contemporânea e aos debates nos quais as relações entre arquivos e direitos humanos têm sido mobilizadas. Para tal, discutimos, primeiramente, a trajetória e as características do arquivo pessoal do sociólogo Betinho, acervo cuja associação à categoria consideramos pertinente; em seguida, apresentamos uma revisão da literatura sobre arquivos de direitos humanos e, por fim, analisamos outros espaços de discussão dessa temática, atentando sobretudo para o uso da categoria “direitos humanos” na caracterização de arquivos pessoais. Nosso interesse se plasma à perspectiva assumida por arquivistas que, ao defenderem uma postura engajada e comprometida com os direitos humanos, têm investido no desenvolvimento de projetos que buscam salvaguardar, preservar e difundir arquivos assim identificados, visando à construção de uma memória mais ampla e diversa, e a inserção da dimensão arquivística nas lutas por igualdade, justiça social e democracia.

This dissertation seeks to explore the category “human rights archives”, drawing on contemporary archival literature and the debates in which the relationship between archives and human rights has been mobilized. To this end, we discuss, first, the trajectory and characteristics of the personal archive of sociologist Betinho, a collection whose association we consider relevant; then, we present a review of the literature on human rights archives and, finally, we analyze other spaces for discussion of this theme, considering particularly attention to the use of the category “human rights” in the characterization of personal archives. We are interested in the perspective taken by archivists who, in defending an engaged and committed human rights stance, have invested in the development of projects that seek to safeguard, preserve and disseminate archives thus identified, with a view to building a broader and more diverse memory, and the insertion of the archival dimension in the struggles for equality, social justice and democracy.
