The value of ISE: main studies and investor perspective

Abstract

This study has been prepared with the aim of bringing together the main research lines that seek to identify and convey the value of participating in initiatives like the ISE. This document is structured on three major fronts. On the first front, we conducted a survey to collect the main data on SRI trends in the two largest market niches: Europe and the United States, besides results from an MIT research study conducted among executives on the value of sustainability in the current market. Next, we carried out a non-exhaustive survey on academic studies that seek to identify the intangible and tangible gains achieved by companies through their participation in the ISE or related initiatives. Finally, we present the results of a survey done with major Brazilian pension funds aimed at investigating the knowledge of the ISE and how it could be used in their analysis and decision-making process.

Este estudo foi elaborado com o objetivo de reunir as principais linhas de pesquisa que buscam identificar e traduzir o valor em participar de iniciativas como o ISE. Ele está estruturado em três grandes frentes. Na primeira, fizemos um levantamento e reunimos as principais informações sobre as tendências do ISR nos dois maiores nichos deste mercado: Europa e Estados Unidos, além dos resultados de uma pesquisa do MIT realizada com executivos sobre o valor da sustentabilidade no mercado atual. Em seguida, fizemos um levantamento, não exaustivo, de estudos acadêmicos que procuram identificar os ganhos intangíveis e tangíveis adquiridos pelas empresas por meio da participação no ISE ou em iniciativas correlatas. Por fim, apresentamos os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada com importantes fundos de pensão brasileiros, que teve como objetivo investigar o grau de conhecimento sobre o ISE e como este poderia ser utilizado em seu processo de análise e tomada de decisão.
